wwwp5k – 2020 Virtual Run

This year I participated in the 2020 World Wide WordPress 5K Virtual Run. I did the 5K at my favorite local trail with my dad. We managed to find a warmer than usual day amidst the cold New York winter, but it was still cold!

As an added bonus, WordPress offered to match a donation to any charity when you did your run. I donated my money to The Brothers Trust. At the end of every year my family has an allotted amount of money that each of us can put towards a charity. I’m so happy that WordPress will match mine this year so that I can donate even more than I could have on my own!

If you’re up to date on my posts, and somehow remembered it from my insanely long post yesterday, I got picked for testing at school this week. I was more worried than I though I would be at first. Despite that worry, I still adamantly believed that it was the right thing to do. You(or more accurately your parents) had to consent to being tested. For me it was never even a question. I think that it’s necessary in order to provide accurate results as a percentage of the student and staff population. The testing is supposed to be random in order to give a good average, and it can’t be completely random if people aren’t consenting. Also, I would rather know the results even if they’re not what I would like than have something bad happen because I didn’t get tested. Well, I got tested today. What was that like? That’s what everyone seems to want to know. They called me down to go to the nurses office. There was a line and they put tape “X” ‘s on the floor so we could distance. When I got called, the nurse explained everything and then did the nasal swab. You go back to class right away. If the call you back down after the 15 minutes it takes to show results, you tested positive and they call your parents to pick you up and quarantine you. If you don’t get called back it is assumed you are negative. After all this information, I’ll tell you my result. It’s good news! I tested negative! There wasn’t really any other news today other than that they changed the guidelines in case we go into the orange zone.

PS. It wasn’t too bad. A little uncomfortable, but that’s it.

I can’t believe that I haven’t written since April, and at the same time I can’t believe that I can still write in this. So, I’m just going to try to give a brief summery of everything that happened since I last wrote. First order of business, school. I never did get back to school last year. We had a day that we went and turned in all our books and cleaned our lockers out for the last time. Then we also had a car parade for the 8th graders. We decorated our cars and drove into the parking lot and got our class of 2024 shirts and masks. It was odd, but at the same time I almost wish they always did the parade. Later on I’ll talk about school this year. I was looking at my last entries to see what I needed to cover and realized just how long ago it was! We were still getting Instacart orders! Stores opened up a lot more since then. Some still had restrictions about number of people and sanitizing though. We started going out a lot more too. Almost as much as before March. We’ve had some people over distanced in our backyard or parks eventually, so that’s fun. So that we can continue it through the colder weather, and for eating on the patio in the fall, we got blankets specifically for outside, space heaters, and Mom and I decorated the garage with Christmas lights. We will leave the doors open if we have people over. Wearing masks has become strangely normal. We all have so many now, including Halloween and Christmas patterns. I even made one of mine myself. On a less world/town-view and more personal note, I redid my whole room. I painted one wall black, and the rest of them grey. I made fun pillowcases too and plan to do curtains finally some time. I call the new style of my room “Intellectual Antique”. School started up again in September, but not fully. You had the choice of doing either hybrid(2 days in-school) or full-virtual. I chose hybrid because I knew there was no way I could handle doing virtual again, and wouldn’t if I could help it. I also needed to be around people, as I found out I couldn’t handle it as well as I’d expected. I go in on Mon. and Thurs., and have the rest virtual. On Wed. we have shortened period calls all day. On Tues. and Fri. I only have a math(geometry) call and the rest is whatever the teachers post. I finally cleared off my desk so it’s usable and installed a light under the hang-over on my desk, so that’s awesome. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are now the president-elect and vice-president-elect! This is history! It’s perfect that 100 years ago woman won the right to vote in the US, and now we’ve elected the first woman into the White House! Next election I will be old enough to vote! I can’t believe it! We just moved into the yellow zone, so more restrictions again. At school now 20% of students and staff have to get tested. It’s less-invasive, so more likely to give false positives or negatives, but good enough. I got picked for next week so I’ll be one of the first! I’m nervous, but also interested to see what it’s like and my results. Fingers crossed that it comes back negative. I hope I covered everything good enough!

Ahhh! I haven’t written in a long time yet again. So something interesting happened late last night. I got out of the shower and went to turn the water off, like one does. It didn’t work. I could turn the handle as much as I wanted, but the water kept coming. Dad tried to fix it, but ended up having to turn off the main water. He turned it on so we could all go to the bathroom before though. He filled a thing with water to wash our hands in and we could use the toilet, but not flush it. This morning a plumber came and fixed it. He said that he needed to replace a cartridge? The past 3 days I’ve been cooking a lot. On Friday I made calzones with Dad, Yesterday we made an Almond Joy cake and today we made bread and I made snack bars. We are getting another Instacart order soon. On Saturday I went on a walk with Dad and then it was Virtual Craft Day. I painted the shelf I made in tech this year black and decorated it with the painted mandalas we were doing. Now I have to hang it up. I printed more photos with my Sprocket and drew the 21 Pilots logo. Fun…

OK, week review since I’ve been so bad about writing. On Wednesday Mom and I decided to go on a drive and deliver some balloons that said ” Hello! – Ani ” on them. Our plans changed when we found that our car battery was dead from lack of driving it. We had the car company come fix it and eventually we went out, but that was unexpected! On Thursday ( aka. yesterday ) it was our friend’s birthday. We went over and decorated their house and dropped off gifts for fun. Going back in time, Sunday was Easter! I helped Dad make dinner and we still had egg + basket hunts. I think now we are out of school until May 4th or 5th. Lately we have been doing weekly family Zooms to catch up and play cards. They’re nice, but not as nice as in person. Saturday will be Virtual Game Day again. Dad’s Grand Meetup for work in September was just canceled. Also, this weekend Phantom of the Opera is the show through the Andrew Lloyd Weber ” The Show Must Go On ” program.

-Ani ( Uggggh )

PS. I am wearing my Medusa costume that somehow still fits from when I was probably 9! And I’m 14 now! It looks different, but it fits!

It’s Friday of the 4th week off! Yay!! …(weakly). It is also Good Friday so I had no math work and shouldn’t have had any Social Studies except, I didn’t do my work yesterday because I was waiting for her to write back. I got my school work done and finished watching a You Tuber’s live-stream that I like early. ( Their live-stream was for charity and on Tuesday I forgot to try to get on it so I’ve been watching/listening to it since Wednesday. ) I also found a new You Tuber who I like. I have been texting/becoming friends with a kid from school, so that’s nice. Sunday is Easter, but we are also doing Easter in October.

Oops, oops, oops! I was totally going to write yesterday! I forgot! Last weekend was Mom+Dad’s 17th anniversary, so that’s fun. OK, news. School is out till April 29th and all regents this year are canceled. There will be more news today about grading and the foreign language exams. Mom said that the class of 1990′(a couple of her friends’ year) science regents was stolen, so it was cancelled. Their grade was their class average, or they could take it in August. Mom was also saying that it’s interesting, because only honors 8th graders like me are taking regents thins year, so affected. The rest of the class of 2024 will still have to take them next year, so they’re probably jealous. I started a free online program about epidemiology and this virus last night. It’s very interesting.

It’s April, and I’m once again a slacker. Yesterday I was busy doing all my work for Thursday and Friday so I’d have a day off(ish) still. Of course, my teachers still posted some stuff that I had to do this morning. Today Mom asked if I wanted to pick out fabric for my mask in case we all have to wear them. I didn’t want to because it feels like giving in, accepting that we’re gonna’ be at this for a long time. I haven’t left the neighborhood since the middle of March and I’m finally admitting that I’m stir-crazy. I did pick out a fabric though. I just kind of legitimately thought about the fact that I might not be going back to my school this year. I hate all this, and even though people are saying that everything happening is to try and make it better, it’s hard to believe that we’re actually going back on the 16th – in 13 days.

I’m going to get right into it. Spring Break next week isn’t happening. Governor Cuomo said that we’re gonna have school over what was supposed to be break. It’s like they read my mind. Ugggh, I just got almost all the calories of my move goal. I hate leaving it till late, but I always do. I’ve been liking the app I’m using to track the calories I eat and the watch stuff. I’ve definitely lost weight and am getting healthier I think, which is good. It’s the last day of March, so good-bye birthday month. You can see that my first entry in this was the 13th so oh my! That’s a long time so far, and we were talking about all this in my Honors English class of all places, for a long time before this ‘ol thing.

PS. I’ve forgotten abt. that group-chat it’s so inactive now.
